يتناول هذا البحث تاريخ جنوب سورية (دمشق وإمارات حوران) في الألف الثاني قبل الميلاد، في حقبة تُعَدُّ الأهَمَّ في تاريخ المنطقة، وهي مدة تراخت فيها سيطرة الإمبراطورية الفرعونية على سورية، فحصل صراع سياسيٌّ حادٌّ بين إمارات حوران الثائرة في وجه الفرعون المصري من جهة، ودمشق التي بقيت مخلصة وفية للسيادة المصرية، وتُعَدُّ رسائل العمارنة المسمارية التي عُثر عيها في (آخت آتن)، عاصمة أخناتون الإمبراطورية؛ المصدر الأهم لهذه الحقبة من تاريخ جنوبي سورية في ظلّ غياب التنقيبات الأثرية في المنطقة.
Research Summary
This research addresses the history of Southern Syria (Damascus and the Emirate of Hauran) in the 2nd millennium BC. It is a period when the Pharaonic Empire’s control over Syria loosened, which resulted in a severe political conflict between the Hauran Emirate rebelling against the Egyptian Pharaoh on one hand, and Damascus, which remained loyal to the Egyptian reign, on the other. The Amarna cuneiform letters that were discovered in Akhetaten, the imperial capital of Akhenaten’s empire, are considered the most important discovery of this period of the history of Southern Syria.
